Nyssa Mitchell is an award-winning cinematographer based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia, working across narrative, music videos, commercials and documentary.
Her narrative shorts have screened at major film festivals across Australia and internationally. Her credits include Pernell Marsden’s acclaimed 2024 film THE MEANINGLESS DAYDREAMS OF AUGIE & CELESTE, which received award nominations at festivals including Slamdance (Grand Jury Prize Nominee), Melbourne International Film Festival (Winner Best Australian Short), Fantastic Fest (Winner Best Short Film), Sydney Film Festival (Winner Best Director) and St Kilda Film Festival (Winner Best Short Film).
Her other short film credits include Emily Dynes’ Iris Prize-nominated HOLD STILL (Winner Best Short Film at Melbourne Queer Film Festival 2025), Jasper Caverly’s PLEASURE (Melbourne International Film Festival 2024) and Madeleine Mytkowski’s ADG-nominated SALT DREAMS (Adelaide Film Festival 2023, Flickerfest 2023). Her cinematography on Sarah Hegge-Taylor’s PULP (Melbourne International Film Festival 2025) received an ACS Gold Award, alongside an ACS Silver Award in the music video category for Kaya’s ‘Flying Into The Sun’. Her other work in music videos includes Missy Higgins’ ‘Craters’, directed by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore, which was nominated for the 2025 ARIA Award for Best Music Video of the Year.
Nyssa’s debut narrative feature film RIVER, directed by Zane Borg, had its world premiere at Zlín Film Festival 2026 and was selected for the Adelaide Film Festival Goes to Cannes showcase at Cannes Film Festival. She has further long-form projects currently in development.
In 2025, Nyssa was named by Inside Film as a Rising Talent in cinematography, and subsequently selected for the American Society of Cinematographers prestigious Vision Mentorship program.
